Buying a Panasonic Viera plasma TV?

When you hear of HDTV you most likely hear about Sony and Panasonic, top manufacturers of HDTVs. Sony with it's Bravia models is the premium LCD TV. Panasonic with it's Viera models, is the top ranking Plasma TV made. The model types are different but both Sony and Panasonic are producing stunning results with their TVs.

What exactly is all the fuss about HD? HD is short for High Definition. The TV images you look at are judged for clarity and image by it's resolution, and the higher resolution the sharper the resolution. Imagine 50 little pixels making up an image. It's blotchy and one dimensional. Now imagine 50,000 pixels making that same image. That is a higher resolution. Clearer, more defined.

What makes a Sony Bravia or a Panasonic Viera an HDTV? Some would say when the resolution of the TV is at least 720p. But the norm is 1920x1080 interlaced or 1080i for short. You'll see 1080i and 1080p everywhere you look. 1080p is the preferred technology, it can produce an image in one pass, instead of the two the 1080i needs. 2160p or 4k to 8k may loom in the future, but for now and the immediate future as the HD technology comes of age, 1080p is the way to go.

LCD or plasma?

How do you decide what you want, an LCD or Plasma? Both TVs have so many good points. Gamers tend to like plasma tvs for how good their games look. Plasma's have richer and deeper way of displaying color and they can be viewed from just about any angle with out being distorted. LCD's look good in even bright rooms. They give high quality images even on screens smaller than a 32 inch. There is no flicker, less eye fatigue with an LCD.

Selecting a HDTV is going to be your personal preference in the end. Sony Bravia and Panasonic Viera offer many sizes and styles of HDTV for you, with a wide price range to choose from. Getting a good tv is not a problem, choosing among the good TVs will be.
